*UPDATE* #LASD Deputy-Involved Shooting-Suspect Struck by Gunfire, 1600 Blk E. Av Q-10, Palmdale

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a Deputy-Involved Shooting that occurred in the 1600 block of East AvenueQ-10, Palmdale on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at approximately 1:50 p.m.

Detectives have learned that a Palmdale Station deputy was on routine patrol in a single man unit, when he observed a light colored coupe vehicle driving recklessly at a high rate of speed. At this time, the deputy believed the person was driving under the influence and conducted a traffic stop to contact the driver who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

During which time the driver, a male, Hispanic adult, yelled out profanities and drove away at a high rate of speed. The deputy reentered his patrol vehicle and a vehicle pursuit ensued of a reckless person driving under the influence.

When the vehicle pursuit terminated at the location, the suspect exited his vehicle with a shiny object in his hand and while refusing to comply with the deputies orders to surrender, he ran to the rear of the location.

At this time, the deputy followed the suspect in a foot pursuit towards the rear of the location where the suspect picked up a large stick approximately 4 to 5 feet in length.  He turned towards the deputy with the stick in one hand raised over his head, while at the same time, exposing an unknown shiny object which appeared to be a knife.  He then charged at the deputy.

For his safety, the deputy fired one round striking the suspect in the mid torso area.

Deputy personnel and paramedics treated the suspect at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in fair condition.

The deputy was not injured during this incident.

There is no additional information and the investigation is still on-going.
