INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Accident investigators are on-scene of a fatal accident involving two vehicles on the city’s east side.
Just before 11:30 a.m. on 07/04/2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 1200 block of N Mitthoefer Rd on reports of a serious accident. Responding officers located two vehicles near the intersection of 12th and Mithoefer. EMS personnel responded and transported the two male drivers and one elderly female passenger to Methodist Hospital in critical condition, however despite the best life-saving efforts, the female passenger died.
Accident investigators responded to the scene and began gathering witness statements. Investigators learned that the striking vehicle was going north on Mithoeffer Rd when it crossed the center line and got into a head-on collision with the other vehicle that was going south on Mithoeffer Rd. The striking vehicle had one occupant, while the other involved vehicle had two. Investigators do not believe alcohol to be a factor in this crash. The driver of the striking vehicle will be taken for a blood draw which is standard procedure for an accident involving serious bodily injury or death. The name of the deceased should be obtained through the Marion County Coroner's Office after proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
