SUMMARY: On June 29, 2017, deputies from the Victorville Police Department were requested to respond to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at Walgreens, in the 13600 block of Bear Valley Road.

An employee reported that the suspect, Wayne Morris Tyson, had been confronted about concealing unpaid merchandise and attempting to leave the store. When confronted by the employee the suspect brandished a handgun, causing the employee to be in fear for their life. The suspect fled the store.

A detective responding to the call, observed the suspect near the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Amethyst. The detective attempted to contact the suspect and the suspect fled. A foot pursuit ensued, during which the suspect dropped a handgun. The detective was able to get the suspect to the ground where he continued to resist and did not comply with the commands given. A deputy arrived at the scene and assisted in taking the suspect into custody. The handgun was recovered and found to be a BB gun.

During the struggle, the detective received injuries to his hand. He was treated at a hospital for the injuries and released. The suspect was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The suspect was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for resisting a peace officer-causing serious bodily injury, robbery, and obstructing/resisting an executive officer.
