Modesto, CA – A Modesto man dies a week after he was struck during a road rage incident on Highway 99.

At about 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2017, the California Highway Patrol requested Modesto Police Department investigate a vehicle assault involving a pedestrian on Highway 99 at the Kansas Avenue exit. Once on scene, emergency personnel found 20-year-old Adrian Gomez unconscious in the roadway. He was rushed to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to witnesses, Gomez was a passenger in a truck that was involved in a road rage incident that started near the Standiford Avenue exit. The two vehicles involved pulled to the shoulder near the Kansas Road exit. Gomez and at least one other subject got out of the truck and began walking toward the other vehicle when the driver accelerated and struck him. The driver of the suspect vehicle fled the area prior to police arriving on scene.

Detectives believe they have identified the driver that fled the area and the investigation into what transpired before the assault is ongoing.
