Tuesday, June 27, 2017 - Fatal Traffic Collision in Niles Canyon

On June 27, 2017, at 6:51 p.m., the Fremont Police Department received several calls regarding a collision in Niles Canyon.  The callers stated a motorcyclist had driven off the roadway and down the embankment on Niles Canyon Rd.  Several motorists stopped and began rendering medical aid to the motorcyclist.  Fremont Police officers arrived along with Fremont Fire personnel, but the motorcyclist, a 68-year-old Fremont resident, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The Fremont Police Traffic Unit responded and took over the investigation.

Niles Canyon was closed until approximately midnight during the investigation.

The preliminary investigation suggests the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Niles Canyon Rd. when he lost control of his motorcycle and drove off the roadway. The motorcyclist struck a tree at the bottom of the embankment.  There is no evidence the motorcyclist was impaired.  The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to please contact Traffic Investigator William Malcomson at [email protected] or 510-790-6769.
