Patrol officers arrest burglary suspect after resident receives live video feed alert on his cell phone.

On Monday, June 26, 2017, at 9:51 a.m., a resident on the 34000 block of Eucalyptus Terrace called 9-1-1 to report a verified alarm activation and in-progress burglary at his residence.  The caller had received the activation while he was out on a bike ride with his children.  He advised dispatchers that he had a live video feed of a male trying to gain entry into his residence through a back door.

Several officers and a sergeant arrived on scene within in minutes of the call being received.  Shortly after arriving on scene, one officer advised that she observed a male exit the rear of the residence and flee towards the front of the house.   A perimeter was quickly established and additional patrol units and detectives responded.  Fremont Fire was called for UAS (drone) support and a CHP helicopter responded from Napa.

Upon the scene being locked down, residents in the immediate area were notified and officers began a yard to yard search.  Officers at the home of the reporting party found the rear glass sliding door shattered and confirmed a burglary had been committed.

At 11:18 a.m., during the yard to yard search, officers found the suspect hiding in a backyard on the 34200 block of Tupelo St.  Demetrius Wells, a 19 year old Newark resident, was taken into custody and arrested for burglary. Arraignment is scheduled for June 28, 2017 at the Fremont Hall of Justice.

The loss from the burglary was recovered and returned to the victim.
