Large gang fight at Monte Rio beach sends five to the hospital, two arrests made so far.

Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two teenagers after a gang-related fight at the Monte Rio Beach Saturday. At about 6:40 PM, deputies were called to the beach on a report of over a dozen people actively fighting and throwing beer cans.

When the deputies arrived, they found as many as 16 people had been involved in a large fight that included weapons used such as bottles, cans, sticks and knives. Five victims were in need of medical attention. A 28-year-old man from San Francisco, a 22-year-old and a 25-year-old men both from Santa Rosa were taken to a local hospital ambulance to be treated for their injuries. Their injuries consisted of mostly lacerations and contusions to the head. A 55-year-old man from Santa Rosa had a laceration to his hand and a 19 year-old Santa Rosa man suffered a stab wound to his chest. All victims were treated at local hospitals are expected to survive their injuries.

After separating the parties, interviewing numerous people and reviewing cell phone footage it was determined that one group at the beach spontaneously started yelling gang terms and started the fight with another group who was presumed to be from a rival gang.

A 17-year-old boy from Petaluma was ultimately arrested and booked into Sonoma County Juvenile Hall on one charge of assault with a deadly weapon. A female, 16-years-old from Santa Rosa was also arrested for misdemeanor battery and was released on a citation.

Violent Crimes Detectives were called to the scene and are investigating the situation. Further arrests and gang enhancements are likely as the investigation unfolds.
