Major Traffic Collision

On June 23, 2017 at approximately 10:16 p.m., officers from the Torrance Police Department responded to a major traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle on 190th Street, west of Crenshaw Boulevard.

On arrival, officers discovered that a green, 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle had collided into the rear of a silver, 2011 Chrysler sedan in the eastbound lanes of 190th Street.

Based on witness statements, the initial investigation indicates the Kawasaki motorcycle was travelling eastbound on 190th Street at a high rate of speed, splitting between other eastbound vehicles when it collided into the rear of the Chrysler sedan.  A third vehicle, a Black, 2010 Toyota Tundra pickup truck received minor damage from flying debris.   The rider of the Kawasaki, a 25-year-old male resident of South Dakota was treated by Torrance Fire Department Personnel at the scene and transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries, and is listed in critical condition. The rider of the Kawasaki has been identified, but his name is being withheld pending family notification.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 31-year-old female resident of Long Beach, and her passenger were not injured in the collision.

Eastbound 190th Street was closed between Yukon Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard for approximately four and a half hours during the collision investigation.

This collision is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division under the command of Captain Martin Vukotic, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division at (310) 618-5557.
