#LASD Deputies Assisting with Evacuations, Traffic Control in Santa Clarita #PlaceritaFire

At approximately 12:46 today, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a traffic collision at the Northbound Highway 14 at Placerita Canyon. The traffic collision caused a tree to catch on fire that has since spread towards the Disney Ranch area.  Structures in the path of the fire are threatened and evacuations are underway.

Although Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel are actively engaged in extinguishing the fire, out of an abundance of caution as well as the safety of the people living in the area, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies have begun to assist residents in the Disney Ranch, Tenderfoot Trail Road, Running Horse Road and Placerita Canyon areas evacuate.

Affected residents are asked to seek shelter at “Golden Valley High School,” 27051 Robert C. Lee Pkwy, Santa Clarita.  Please monitor yourselves, loved ones and family pets for possible medical emergencies such as heat strokes.  Take prescription medications and any liquids necessary with you.

At this time, Highway 14 has been closed in both directions until further notice.  Eight hundred acres have burned as a result of the Placerita Fire and one structure has been destroyed.  Additionally, the area of Disney Ranch has experienced a power outage as a result, affecting 76 homes.   The fire is zero percent contained.

LASD deputies remain throughout the area to ensure public safety where also a unified command of law enforcement and public officials continue to work relentlessly in extinguishing the fire to keep you, your families and your homes safe.
