Suspect charged with attempted murder in Saturday evening shooting.

22-yr-old Noel Mejia of Hayward was charged Tuesday by the Alameda County District Attorney for attempted murder stemming from a shooting incident that occurred last Saturday evening.

On 06/17/2017 around 8 pm, officers from the San Leandro Police Department responded to the 2000 block of West Ave 135th on the report of a disturbance that involved a shooting. When Officers arrived, they found one victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to his abdomen and the suspect had fled the scene.

In the course of the investigation, officers discovered evidence and obtained leads identifying the shooter as Noel Mejia, an associate of the victim's neighbor.

Detectives later obtained video surveillance from the area that captured the incident and identified the getaway vehicle as a white Nissan Maxima.

The following Day, SLPD officers were dispatched to an unrelated hit-and-run collision involving the suspect vehicle. When officers arrived on the scene, they learned that the occupants had run from the car.

A search of the area was conducted and three subjects were located, one of them being suspect Noel Mejia. All three subjects were questioned regarding the shooting incident however only Noel Mejia was arrested for the crime.

"The swift and thorough work of our officers and detectives led us to the arrest of this dangerous suspect", said Lt. Isaac Benabou. "Information obtained within the first few hours of any incident is critical to the outcome of the investigation. We are pleased that the suspect is in custody and we are hoping for a full recovery of the victim".

Suspect Mejia has been booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and is awaiting his next court appearance.

The victim in this case has been treated and released from a local hospital and is recovering at home.
