Modesto, CA - Detectives are investigating the death of an inmate at the Stanislaus County Men’s Jail in Downtown Modesto. On 06-21-17 at about 10:40 a.m., 39-year-old Daniel Evangelista was found unresponsive and hanging in his cell. Deputies and jail medical staff immediately started CPR while they waited for AMR and Modesto Fire Department to arrive. At about 11:12 a.m., Evangelista was pronounced deceased by a doctor.
Evangelista was arrested on 06-08-17 for vehicle theft, receiving or possession of stolen property and a probation violation.
