Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are assisting El Monte Police Department with a shooting death investigation and the wounding of another. The incident occurred Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at approximately 11:00 p.m., on Garvey Avenue and Durfee Avenue, El Monte.

Detectives have learned that the victim’s vehicle was occupied by two female Hispanics, driver and front passenger, as well as two male Hispanics, adult and juvenile rear passengers. The victim’s vehicle was stopped at a red light facing northbound on Durfee Avenue, at Garvey Avenue.

While stopped at the red light, the suspect’s vehicle also stopped at the red light next to the victim’s vehicle. A verbal interaction occurred between the occupants of both vehicles. During the course of the verbal interaction, a male Hispanic exited the driver side of the suspect’s vehicle, approached the victim’s vehicle, and shot multiple rounds into the rear passenger compartment. After the shooting, the suspect re-entered his vehicle and fled the scene.

Both rear occupants were struck by gunfire. The female driver drove the victims to an area hospital where the male Hispanic adult was pronounced dead. The male Hispanic juvenile was listed in stable condition.

The relationship between the victims is unknown at the time. 

The female occupants were not injured in the shooting, and are being interviewed by investigators.

The suspect is a male Hispanic, driving a grey compact sedan in an unknown directing.

NARRATIVE:
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are assisting El Monte Police Department with a shooting death investigation and wounding of another. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at approximately 11:14 p.m. Investigators are responding to the area of Garvey Avenue and Durfee Avenue, El Monte.

The male adult victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The male juvenile victim is being treated at a local hospital, and is in unknown condition.      
                                     
There is no suspect information at this time.
