Sheriff’s Detectives arrested 32-year-old Santa Rosa resident Ian Stamp for arson and homicide in the trailer fire that took the life of his mother, 66-year-old Elizabeth Stamp. The fire was reported at about 2:00 PM yesterday in the 400 block of Bejay Ave in the unincorporated area of Santa Rosa. The Rincon Valley Fire Department, along with other fire departments responded and extinguished the fully-engulfed mobile home.
During firefighting efforts, the body of Elizabeth Stamp was located in a rear bathroom. Ian Stamp and his father were located outside the burning mobile home. Firefighters determined the fire had started in Ian Stamp’s bedroom. They also believed the fire was suspicious and was intentionally started as there was an indication of a flammable substance in the room. Based on the suspicious nature of the fire, coupled with the Elizabeth’s death, they notified the Sheriff’s Office who responded to investigate.
The Sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit responded to investigate the suspicious death. They interviewed witnesses, along with Stamp and his father. Detectives believe, based on the statements and evidence, that Ian Stamp intentionally started the fire in his bedroom which then spread throughout the trailer and his mother got trapped inside. Detectives aren’t releasing a motive for starting the fire however it is not believed at this time that he intended to kill his mother.
Stamp is being booked into the Sonoma County Jail, charged with arson and homicide. He is being held without bail.
