STORM ALERT - Heavy Rains, Frequent Lightening, Gusty Winds 4pm to 10pm
STORM ALERT
WEATHER THREAT: Storms with heavy rain and gusty winds
TIME PERIOD: Today 4-10 PM
We have a cold front approaching this evening and combined with a tropical air mass, thunderstorms are expected. First, a pop-up shower/storm is a possibility for the afternoon. While these can contain a downpour, the primary concern is for the arrival of a line of storms 4-8PM. These can produce isolated wind gusts of 40-60 MPH and very heavy downpours. The timing is not good with rush hour and there likely will be a few issues given that the line should be widespread in producing rain rates of 1-2" per hour for a brief time. Lingering rain / non-severe storms can remain until a little after sunset and then we'll dry out later tonight with a less humid day tomorrow.
SEVERE WEATHER EXPECTATIONS -
DAMAGING WINDS: MODERATE - Between 4 and 8 PM, the initial line of t-storms will have the capability of producing a few damaging gusts of 40 - 60 MPH.
LIGHTNING FREQUENCY: HIGH - Expect frequent lightning, including cloud-to-ground strikes
FLOODING ROAD / POOR DRAINAGE MODERATE
- Showers/storms can have rain rates of 1-2" per hour, thus leading to flash flooding of roads. Primary time of concern is 4-10 PM (most likely time is 5-8 PM, coinciding with rush hour).
