TIME:  10:30 until 11:30 a.m.

LOCATION:  1228 Durfee Avenue, South El Monte (Parking Lot at Motel 6)

UNIT:  LASD LA IMPACT Narcotic detectives
 
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Temple Station deputies, along with personnel assigned to the LA County Fire Department, responded to the 1200 block of Durfee Avenue, South El Monte on Sunday, June 18, 2017, at approximately 12:37 a.m. regarding a structure fire call. 

Deputies, along with fire personnel, found several motel rooms on fire.  Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire.

Detectives from Arson Explosives Detail responded and based on recovered evidence determined there was a possible “Honey Oil” marijuana extraction laboratory at the location. 

Additionally, police related equipment was discovered at the location.

Two suspects were detained at the motel and transported to a local hospital for treatment of their burn injuries.  One dog, who suffered from burn injuries, was transported to a local veterinarian hospital.

Investigators believe another suspect, with possible burn injuries, may have left the location prior to their arrival.

The estimated damage to the motel was approximately $80,000.

Detectives from the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force (LA IMPACT), Clandestine Laboratory Team responded and assumed control of the investigation.  LA IMPACT is processing the scene and collecting evidence. 

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available for release at this time.
