...Extended period of very hot weather for inland areas through the middle of next week... .Strong high pressure aloft over the southwest states will bring hot to very hot conditions to areas away from the coast through at least the middle of next week, peaking around Tuesday or Wednesday. High pressure may weaken slightly the latter part of next week with some slight cooling spreading into the valleys on Thursday and farther inland on Friday. ...EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM PDT THURSDAY...

* High Temperatures...110-116 through Sunday...increasing to 116- 122 Monday through Wednesday...then 110 to 116 Thursday.

* Impacts...Those working or spending time outdoors, the elderly, children, and those unaccustomed to excessive heat will be most susceptible to dangerous heat illness.

* Outlook...Slight cooling may continue for Friday into Saturday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take extra precautions...if you work or spend time outside. When possible...reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. &&
