Rosemead Shooting Suspect Takes Own Life, uninc Los Angeles

On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Temple Station deputies responded to the 9700 block of Valley Boulevard in Rosemead regarding an “assault with a deadly weapon, gunshot victim call.”

Upon their arrival, deputies located the victim, a male Hispanic adult, who sustained at least one grazing gunshot wound to the torso.  He was transported to a local hospital in fair condition.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect exited the passenger side of a vehicle and shot at the victim who stood on the sidewalk.  The suspect then re-entered the vehicle and fled north on Temple City Boulevard and out of view.

It is believed that following the shooting, the suspect was driven by a family member toward the Bakersfield area.  As they traveled north on Interstate 5 (I-5) near Gorman, it is reported that the suspect committed suicide with a firearm; that same family member drove to a residence in the 2000 block of Flagstone Avenue, unincorporated Los Angeles County, where paramedics were summoned and subsequently pronounced the suspect dead.

At this time, it is unknown if the assault is gang related.

A gun believed to be used in the assault and suicide was recovered.

Detectives are investigating the possibility that the suspect in the Rosemead assault is the same person who is alleged to have committed suicide in the Gorman area.  Anyone with information about the shooting in Rosemead is asked to call Temple Station Detective Bureau, Sergeant Michael Martinez or Detective Mike Bayer at (626) 285-7171.

Anyone with information about the reported suicide is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), use your smartphone by downloading the “P3 Tips” Mobile APP on Google play or the Apple App Store or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
