Thanks to Tips, Police Make Arrest in Armed Robbery
6/14/2017

NORTH AURORA, IL—The North Aurora Police Department announced today that the suspect from the armed robbery on Tuesday, June 7th in the 0-100 blk. of S. Lincolnway has been arrested and is currently in custody.

Thanks to numerous tips from the public in the days following this incident, investigators from the North Aurora Police Department were able to identify the suspect as Jordan A. Burgos, 26, of the 0-100 blk. of Highview Dr., Yorkville.  The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Armed Robbery, a Class X felony, against Burgos and on Monday a warrant was issued for his arrest.  The bail was set at $100,000.00 / 10%.

On Tuesday, June 13th at 7:45 p.m., officers of the Aurora Police Department responded to a call of a suspicious person at a convenience store in the 900 blk. of S. Lake St (Rt. 31).  The clerk recognized the suspect in this case from photos & videos in the media and called police.  Upon arrival APD officers learned that the suspect had already left the store going southbound on Lake St. in a silver Audi.

While officers were viewing surveillance video in the store, another officer located the silver Audi going northbound at Lake St. & Ashland Ave.  After initiating a traffic stop, the driver, later identified as Burgos, did not stop and a vehicle pursuit by Aurora and North Aurora Police ensued.  During the pursuit Burgos refused to stop, crossed the double yellow lines, exceeded the speed limit, and drove through three red lights.

Burgos eventually pulled over at Lincolnway (Rt. 31) & Airport Rd. in North Aurora and was taken into custody without further incident.  He was transported to the North Aurora Police Department for booking and later transported to the Aurora Police Department to be held on charges of Aggravated Fleeing & Eluding (Class 4 Felony) and several traffic violations.  He is also being held on a parole violation (no bond) warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The North Aurora Police Department would like to acknowledge the media coverage, social media shares, and numerous tips from the public which helped identify Burgos and ultimately resulted in his arrest one week after the armed robbery.  The tips were vital to the case and are great examples of the public and police working together to make our communities safer.

Criminal charges are merely accusations and Burgos is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
