Graduation Day for New Harris County Detention Deputies 
WHO: Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and Command Staff
WHAT: It’s graduation day for 63 Harris County Sheriff’s Office Detention Deputy Candidates. In an effort to attract and retain highly qualified staff to operate Texas’ largest county jail, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez has reinstated the Detention Deputy program.
Through this initiative, Harris County detention officers may now attain certified law enforcement officer status without having to pursue deputy positions outside the jail. The initiative also recognizes certifications that officers earned from outside agencies.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office detention deputies now have a clear career pathway that can lead to a position as a patrol deputy.
