Search warrant served in connection with a recent home invasion. Police recover several guns, ammunition, and drugs.

The Anti-Crime Team conducted follow-up investigation into the home invasion robbery that occurred on May 26, 2017 in the City of Gilroy. They developed probable cause and presented this to a Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge. The judge authorized a search warrant for Jon Kovacs’ residence. Mr. Kovacs was previously arrested, charged and bailed out of custody on the initial home invasion case. This search warrant authorized a search for unlawfully possessed firearms, firearm silencers and home-made explosive devices. The search warrant was served in the City of San Jose with the assistance of the San Jose Police Department, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad and the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team.

Numerous firearms and a large amount of ammunition were recovered. No explosives were located at the residence. A loaded handgun was located in a common area of the home which was easily accessible to a small child who resides there. Mr. Kovacs is a felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. On June 9, 2017, during the execution of the search warrant Mr. Kovacs was located and arrested. He was booked on charges of being a felon in possession of firearms, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a silencer, possession of an unregistered assault weapon, and possession of methamphetamine and child endangerment.
