Sheriff’s Detectives arrested a 39-year-old Rohnert Park man on suspicion of sex crimes with teenage boy. The investigation began on Thursday, June 1, 2017 when a 23-year-old man reported that he was the victim of sexual abuse while residing at the Hanna Boys Center in the Sonoma Valley during the years of 2006-2011.
During this span of time the victim was 13-18 years-old. He reported that a 28-year-old counselor named Kevin Scott Thorpe sexually assaulted him on numerous accounts. The assaults allegedly occurred at both Thorpe’s Sonoma Valley home and on the Hanna Boys Center campus. The victim was in fear of getting in trouble and being kicked out of the Sonoma group home if he told anyone so he kept this private until now, as he fears of ongoing sexual abuse with other minors.
Detectives from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office’s Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit investigated the man’s claims and they feel there is sufficient evidence to believe Thorpe sexually assaulted the victim as a teenager. Detectives also believe there may be additional victims either at Hanna Boys Center or in the community where Kevin volunteers in a youth ministry program for teens. Sheriff’s Detectives obtained a warrant and arrested Thorpe on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at his Rohnert Park home. Thorpe was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor and sexual assault of a minor. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
