Torch Run a Huge Success – 22 officers ran, 10K raised

South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka thanked all the students, teachers, staff, and police officers who made yesterday’s Torch Run a success. “It was a record-breaking year for the run.  The run was a huge success, with the most amount of money raised and the largest number of officers running. Most towns participate in one run, our officers did three different runs in the Township. The event highlights the strength of our relationships with the schools and businesses in the Township.” The annual torch run raises money for NJ Special Olympics.

The 22 South Brunswick Officers who ran raised money by having people sponsor them. In addition, students and staff at the schools purchased special tee shirts to show support for the run. Local businesses also raised funds for the run. South Brunswick officers raised $10,000 dollars, a new local record.

The officers ran at 6am on Route 130, then at noon they ran on Ridge Road, and at 4pm they ran on Route 27. In total the officers ran 17 miles. At the high school and middle school, officers parred up with students who are Special Olympic athletes to run around the track.  It was a day few officers or students who participated will forget.

“I want to thank all those who made the day successful. We make a difference as a police department because we have such strong partners, the Torch Run is just one example,” said Chief Hayducka. Special thanks to the staff and students at South Brunswick High School, Crossroads Middle School, and Monmouth Junction Elementary School; as well as Officer Brian Sites and Detective Nate LaBuda for all their efforts.
