Deputies arrest violent Larkfield man after 2-hour standoff.

Deputies took an armed, violent suspect into custody after a 2 hour-standoff in Larkfield yesterday. At about 4:00 PM the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a tenant at the Lavell Village apartment complex in Larkfield stating that a resident they knew as Andrew Haas was outside his apartment looking into cars.

Responding deputies were familiar with Haas as he had been involved in an altercation with his neighbors on Friday, June 2, 2017. That night at about 11:45 PM, Haas was caught by neighbors looking into apartment windows. When confronted, Haas pulled out a kitchen knife and held it in a threatening manner and retreated into his apartment.

Haas also had a misdemeanor warrant issued on April 26, 2017 for peeping into a window. This warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred on April 3, 2017 where Haas was peeping into a neighbor’s window and was subsequently arrested by deputies. When he failed to show up in court, a $5,000 warrant was issued for his arrest.

Deputies attempted to get Haas to come out of his apartment but he refused and due to the time of night, forced entry could not legally be made. Deputies took a crime report for additional charges against Haas.

Yesterday, as deputies arrived to the apartment complex, Haas retreated into his apartment. He made numerous threats against the deputies, threatening to kill them. He held up a knife from his window in a threatening manner towards deputies. Deputies continued to negotiate with Haas in an attempt to get him to come out cooperatively but Haas continued to refuse. After over an hour of negotiations, deputes attempted to deescalate the situation by pulling away from the complex and watching from a distance.

At about 6:00 PM deputies saw Haas exit his apartment and walk towards Lavell Rd. Deputies quickly approached Haas and ordered him to the ground but Haas turned to flee. A patrol canine bit Haas’ arm as deputies took Haas to the ground. Haas aggressively fought with deputies and tried to reach for his front pockets. At one point, a deputy deployed a Taser and Haas was ultimately handcuffed. A search revealed two 6-inch kitchen knives in his pockets that he had been reaching for.

Haas was treated at the hospital for his bite wounds and ultimately booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of felony threats to a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer and exhibiting a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $30,000.
