INCIDENT: Deputy Saves Man from Suicide Attempt
SUMMARY:
On Saturday, June 3, 2017, while on patrol in the City of Adelanto, Deputy Lauren Abernathy saved a man attempting to commit suicide.
At approximately 1:45 PM, while on patrol near the area of Rancho Road and Richardson Street in Adelanto, she noticed a vehicle parked with a male subject inside. Upon closer inspection, Deputy Abernathy noticed a hose running from the tailpipe to the interior of the vehicle. Deputy Abernathy opened the unlocked door and found the male adult sweating profusely and unresponsive due to the effects of the fumes. She immediately turned off the vehicle, took the keys, and ventilated the vehicle until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital.
Due to the limited traffic if the area, had Deputy Abernathy not been so observant and quick to react, the victim would have most likely been successful in his suicide attempt.
