A dog owner is arrested after deputies find her dog deceased in a locked car

LOCATION: 1001 Lillyhill Dr, Needles
SUSPECT: Dana Nelson, 28 years old, resident of Needles, CA
SUMMARY:
On Thursday, May 25, 2017, the San Bernardino County Sheriff/Needles Police received a call at 10:10 a.m. of a dog that was found in an unattended vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The dog appeared dead and was locked inside of a locked vehicle. Deputies arrived and found a large Lab mix deceased inside of a parked SUV with the windows rolled up and the vehicle not running. Deputies discovered that Dana Nelson returned home hours before and left the dog inside of the car with no water or way to stay cool. Temperatures had reached over 100 degrees by the time the dog was located.
Nelson was arrested and booked into the Colorado River Station Jail with her bail set at $50,000.00. She is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 in Victorville Superior Court.
