The Millstadt Police Department presented their 10th annual D.A.R.E. College Scholarship, at the village board meeting on May 22nd. The money for the $1,000 scholarship is raised through the “D.A.R.E. to Run for BackStoppers” 5K/10K. The requirements for the scholarship include possessing at least a 3.0 GPA, submit three letters of reference, compose an essay on how good decision making can affect their future, and how volunteering and community service creates a better community. The candidate also had to graduate from MCS or St. James School. Eli Tiemann is this year’s winner of the scholarship. Eli is the son of Scott & Kim Tiemann. He is a 2013 graduate of Millstadt Consolidated School, and a 2017 graduate of Belleville West. Eli has been involved in several clubs & activities at Belleville West and throughout the community including: several math & science clubs, several school theatre & musical groups, Millstadt Sister Cities, is an Eagle Scout, and many other clubs and organizations. He is the winner of several awards, including the American Legion School Award, Millstadt VFW Patriotic Award, and is a Medal of Belleville Recipient (one of the city’s highest honors). He is also a member of the National Honors Society with High Honors, school valedictorian, and was the Belleville News Democrat Student of the week.
This fall Eli will be attend Georgia Tech University, to study Mechanical Engineering.
