*Update* #LASD Deputy-Involved (Hit) Shooting, 900 Block of North Santa Fe Avenue, Compton

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into a deputy-involved shooting. The incident occurred Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at approximately 11:40 p.m., on the 900 block of North Santa Fe Avenue, Compton.

Detectives have learned that Compton Station deputies, working a two man car, attempt to pull over a white sedan for traffic violations. The vehicle did yield on the 900 block of North Santa Fe Avenue, at which time the deputies saw there were three occupants in the vehicle. As they made contact with the occupants, one of the deputies opened the rear passenger door of the vehicle. The passenger then armed himself with a handgun, pointed it at one of the deputies and opened fire. At this time a deputy-involved shooting occurred. The suspect then fired on the second deputy, and a second deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The male Hispanic adult suspect was struck by deputy gunfire, transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

One of the deputies was struck by suspect gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital, treated for his injuries and released.

The second deputy was not struck by suspect gunfire.

The other two occupants of the vehicle, both female Hispanic adults, are being detained pending further investigation.

The suspect’s firearm was recovered at the scene. It is believed the suspect is a gang member.

There is no further information at this time.
