Sheriff’s Office and Windsor Police stop attempt to steal a vehicle.
On Monday, May 22, 2017 Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Brandon MacPherson, 22, of Novato and Leah Basch, 20, of Oakland for stealing a pickup truck and other charges.
At approximately 4:50 AM, the Sheriff’s Office received a call that two people were trying to break in to his pickup truck in the 3000 block of Regional Parkway in Santa Rosa. The Sheriff’s Office and Windsor Police responded quickly and found MacPherson leaning into the caller’s pickup truck on the driver’s side, trying to steal the truck by dismantling the ignition. Basch was sitting in the driver’s seat of another pickup truck with the engine running.
Both suspects were detained and searched. MacPherson had filed-down vehicle keys commonly used for stealing vehicles. Basch had a methamphetamine pipe and pocket knife. A search of both trucks revealed hand tools commonly used to steal vehicles, including a screwdriver and pliers. The pickup truck driven by Basch was stolen out of Petaluma and had stolen license plates. The owner of the stolen pickup truck came out and retrieved his truck.
Both MacPherson and Basch were charged with possessing a stolen vehicle, attempting to steal a vehicle, possession of stolen property, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Basch was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. MacPherson also had a warrant out of Marin County. Both were booked into jail and are being held on $10,000 bail each.
