Sam's Burgers employee shot during armed robbery.
This morning, Tuesday, May 23, 2017, just before 3am, an unidentified suspect entered Sam's Burgers, 501 E.14th Street with a handgun. The suspect demanded cash and the employees complied. The exact amount was unknown at the time of this writing.
As the suspect started to flee the restaurant, he pointed the handgun at one of the employees and fired two rounds, both of which struck the employee in the leg. The suspect then fled on foot, west onto Cherrywood Avenue.
An officer, who was in the area and heard the shooting, responded to the restaurant immediately and discovered the injured employee. With the help of Alameda County Sheriff's Department personnel, SLPD officers set up a perimeter in the residential neighborhood just west of Sam's Burgers. A K-9 search was subsequently conducted, however we were unable to locate the suspect.
The victim's injuries are not life threatening.
The suspect was wearing a knit ski mask over his face, concealing his identity. One of the employees described him as African-American with a thin build.
