Timely Warning - Strong Arm Robbery (Correction)

On Monday, May 15, 2017 at approximately 9:15 p.m. a strong arm robbery occurred at the intersection of Bancroft and Piedmont.  Two male suspects robbed the female victim, affiliation unknown, of her property.  The victim and a witness followed the suspects and saw one of them flee in a newer model 4 door sedan, leaving the second suspect behind.  The witness continued to follow the second suspect.  A responding officer located the witness and the suspect on the 2700 block of Channing and arrested one of the suspects.  The suspect was positively identified by the victim and witnesses as the robbery suspect.  The victim was not injured during the encounter.
 
The suspects were described as:
 
Suspect #1 – A Black male in his teens, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt (fled in the vehicle).
Suspect #2 – A Black male juvenile (arrested).

UCPD would like to remind the campus community about the following safety tips:
  • Travel with a friend or in a group
  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings
  • When out and about, keep your electronic devices out of public view as they are a popular robbery target
  • If a motor vehicle is involved in a crime report the following information:  activity, direction of travel, license plate, color, make/model, unusual characteristics (e.g., dents, bumper stickers, graphics, wheels, tinted windows, lifted/lowered), number of persons, etc.
This crime alert has been released with the joint cooperation of BPD and UCPD.
