DATE/TIME OF INCIDENT: May 16, 2017, at 3:04 pm
INCIDENT: WELFARE CHECK/ SUICIDAL SUBJECT
SUBJECT: Male adult, 33 years of age, out of Victorville
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at approximately 1:22 pm, deputies from the Victorville Station received a report of a missing person. The 33 year- old male was reported missing by his mother. According to his mother, she believed he could be in distress over recent struggles in his personal life, and she believed he was somewhere in his vehicle, a newer model black Dodge Challenger. Deputies took a missing person report and BOLO’D the information to surrounding agencies.
At 3:04 pm, the subject’s mom called back and told Sheriff’s Dispatch that her son had contacted her via text and said he was out of gas on Phelan Road, in Phelan. By statements made in the text, she felt her son was suicidal and a threat to any responding law enforcement officers. It was unknown if the subject had any weapons with him; however, statements he made to her led her to believe he had already injured himself.
Deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded and immediately shut down Phelan Road, Between Eaby Road and Johnson Road, for the safety of the community. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Departments Aviation Division responded to assist with safety measures from the air. After negotiations with the subject, he quietly surrendered without incident at 3:55 pm.
