Sheriff's Detectives Investigate Overnight Deputy-Involved Shooting

Modesto, CA – A multi-agency investigation is underway for a deputy-involved shooting that occurred last night in the 200 block of Bragg Road.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. last night, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call from a man reporting a domestic disturbance. The caller indicated that his girlfriend was trying to stab him with a knife at their residence.

When deputies arrived at the home, they contacted a 34-year-old woman outside the residence. The women was still armed with the knife and refused to follow commands given by deputies. During the confrontation, one deputy deployed his duty weapon, striking the women.
As the scene was secured, deputies began providing first-aid to the woman until medical personnel arrived on scene. The woman was transported to the hospital where she is in stable condition.

No deputies on scene were injured during this incident. The deputy involved in the shooting was placed on paid administrative leave, which is a standard procedure with all deputy-involved shootings.

Three separate and independent investigations have been launched into this incident. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is conducting both a criminal and administrative investigation and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the incident.
