Construction Zone Traffic Blitz Net Numerous Traffic Arrests

Tippecanoe County-Today from 9:00 a.m. till noon Troopers from the Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post conducted a traffic blitz on I-65 between the 167 mile marker and the 179 mile marker (that is just south of the SR 38/168 exit and just north of the SR 43 /178 exit) targeting crash causation factors. These factors include but not limited to speeding in a construction zone, unsafe lane movement, nonuse of seatbelt and child restraints, following too closely and impaired driving.

Twelve troopers patrolled the twelve miles of interstate and compiled:
• 44 warning tickets
• 35 traffic citations
• 2 operating while intoxicated
• 3 semi-truck inspections
• 4 criminal arrests for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

“People need to realize that a construction zone speed limit is there to protect the workers and the motoring public. Slower speeds mean quicker response times and more time to react to a crisis situation” stated Lt. Tom McKee, commander of the ISP post at Lafayette. “We want the construction workers and the motoring public to make it home safely every night to their family and friends!”

During the current Click It or Ticket Campaign, the Indiana State Police at the Lafayette Post may conduct numerous traffic blitzes and DUI checkpoints to help deter aggressive driving.
