Headlight Out Leads to Heroin Arrest

Muncie – Last night just before 11 p.m. Trooper Lee Tinch was at a gas station at Memorial Drive and Gharkey St in Muncie when he saw a silver Cadillac driving by westbound with the driver’s side headlight out. Tinch pulled out to stop the vehicle, to let the driver know he had a headlight out.

As he drove behind the vehicle he saw that it had a KY Temporary Plate that appeared to have had the expiration date altered, and also had a blue light around the rear license plate.  In Indiana blue light can only be displayed on a moving vehicle by volunteer fireman. Tinch stopped the vehicle at Elliot and 11th St. and made contact with the male driver and male passenger.

The driver, Todd Spradlin, age 37 of Muncie, was found to be Driving While his License was Suspended.  The passenger, Lester Swafford, age 36 of Muncie, was found to be wanted on warrants and was also in possession of Heroin, a syringe and Marijuana.

Swafford was lodged in the Delaware County Jail for Possession of Heroin, Level 6 Felony, Possession of a Syringe, Level 6 Felony and misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, as well as the outstanding arrest warrants.

Spradlin was cited for Driving While Suspended with a prior conviction, “A” Misdemeanor, and Altering an Interim Plate, “C” Misdemeanor.  He was written warnings for headlight out and displaying a blue light. Spradlin’s vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded. Anyone with information about illegal drug activity may call the Indiana State Police Drug Tip Line at 1-800-453-4756. Tips can be made and kept anonymous.
