Advisory

Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office arrests felon with three outstanding warrants.

Early this morning, the Sheriff's Office arrested Michael McGinnis, 47, of Santa Rosa, for resisting arrest. McGinnis has three outstanding felony warrants.

On May 10, 2017 at approximately 6:10 AM, a Sheriff’s Deputy tried to contact a man hitchhiking and walking in and out of traffic on River Road near Woolsey Road. The man, later identified as Michael McGinnis, did not stop walking. After the deputy asked him to stop several times, McGinnis ran across River Road and into a nearby vineyard. The deputy chased him. McGinnis crawled under a vineyard row, which obscured his hands. The deputy again asked McGinnis to stop and warned him he would deploy the Taser if he did not comply. McGinnis continued to crawl away, so the deputy deployed his Taser one time. McGinnis then complied and was taken into custody.

McGinnis originally provided a fake name, then later provided his real name. McGinnis was arrested and charged with resisting a peace officer. He is also being held on three outstanding felony warrants for violation of probation and failure to appear. He is in custody at the Sonoma County jail.
