American Flags at Our Station Represent the 145 Officers Killed in 2016

The 145 American flags that surround our police station represent the 145 law enforcement officers in the United States who died while working in 2016.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
In this nation in 2016, 145 Officers were killed while performing their duties in their communities; up from 128 in 2015. In Pennsylvania, since the last Police Memorial Day on May 15th, four (4) officers were killed in the line of duty. In addition, two (2) police canines also died while working. The 145 American flags that line the front of our station represent those officers killed throughout this country. Each of the flags representing the four (4) officers from PA and the canines have a bio attached. Here are those that died in Pennsylvania:

July 18, 2016 -Corr. Ofr. David Moules, Luzerne County Corrections, Cause/Assault

Sept. 26. 2016-Corr. Ofr. David Weaver, PA Dept. of Corrections, Cause/Fall

Nov. 10, 2016 -Ofr. Scott Bashioum, Cannonsburg PD, Cause/Gunfire

Dec. 30, 2016 Tpr. Landon Weaver, PA State Police, Cause/Gunfire

Police k-9 Deaths:

Jan. 31, 2016 -K-9 Aren, Port Authority of Allegheny Co., Cause/Stabbed

July 7, 2016 -K-9 Totti, PA Dept. of Corrections, Cause/Heat Exhaustion
