A Sheriff's patrol unit catches fire in the area of Palmdale Road and El Evado Road

DATE/TIME: May 3, 2017 / 8:25 p.m.

INCIDENT: Patrol Vehicle Fire

LOCATION: Palmdale Road



SUMMARY:
On May 3, 2017, at approximately 8:25 p.m., two deputies from the Victorville Police Department were on patrol in the area of Palmdale Road and El Evado Road. While driving a marked patrol vehicle, they noticed an unusual smell inside the vehicle and smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. They were able to safely pull into a parking lot at the intersection and stop the vehicle. As they exited they noticed smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment. Deputies attempted to extinguish the flames but were unsuccessful. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames within a short period of time.

Neither of the deputies sustained injuries and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
