Sacheen Lake "No Wake" Restrictions
PEND OREILLE COUNTY NEWPORT, WASHINGTON
RESOLUTION NO. 2017-5
IMPOSING A TEMPORARY NO WAKE RESTRICTION ON SACHEEN LAKE
WHEREAS, weather conditions are such that rain, melting snow pack, ice jams and frozen ground conditions are causing heavy spring water runoff resulting in flooding conditions on Sacheen Lake in Pend Oreille County; and
WHEREAS, there is a current emergency Resolution number 2017-09 relating to heavy water runoff resulting in flooding conditions; and
WHEREAS, high water levels compared to historical norms have led to severe shoreline erosion at Sacheen Lake, resulting in property damage and degradation of water quality; and
WHEREAS, efforts to control lake level have been ongoing for many years and maintenance of the culverts in beaver dams under the auspices of a Hydraulic Application Permit (HPA) held by the Sacheen Lake Water & Sewer District have provided inadequate results; and
WHEREAS, when water is high, such as spring and early summer, boat wakes exacerbate the erosion significantly.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, as of this date, there is hereby imposed an emergency temporary speed restriction on motorized vessels using Sacheen Lake . The Board orders that no motorized vessel, excepting emergency vessels, be operated on this lake in excess of wake speed. This temporary speed restriction shall remain in effect until further order of this Board.
