POLICE SEARCHING FOR STOLEN DOG TAKEN IN AUTO THEFT

SLPD is asking for the public's assistance in locating a local couple's best friend.

On Saturday, 04/22/17 at 7:45 pm, SLPD officers responded to Marina Square Shopping center on the report of a stolen vehicle. Inside of the stolen vehicle was the victim's pet dog.

The pet owner stated that he parked his green 1994 Honda Accord in the parking lot of the shopping center located at 1275 Marina Blvd. in San Leandro. When the owner returned 45 minutes later, he discovered his vehicle had been stolen, along with his pet dog "Koda", a 14 yr. old Scottish Terrier.

Police have been searching for the owner's vehicle and Koda and investigators have distributed a bulletin to all law enforcement agencies to "be on the lookout". Video Surveillance from the shopping center was located that shows the suspect arriving in a white 1994-2001 Acura Integra, 2-door model. The suspect is seen entering the victim vehicle and fleeing the area.

The Owner has issued a $500 Reward for the safe return of Koda who is currently in need of daily medication. Koda is described as an all-black medium hair length terrier, weighing 19 lbs. The owner states he has received some unconfirmed sightings of Koda in the Richmond and El Cerrito areas.

It is important to locate and return the stolen vehicle to the owner said Lt. Isaac Benabou. "However, it is even more important to return Koda to his family. To some of us, losing a pet is like losing a family member."

If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Koda or the owner's 1994 Honda accord, please notify the San Leandro Police Department or the local law enforcement agency.
