Training accident injures a deputy. Deputy is hospitalized in stable condition

LOCATION: Sheriff’s Training Center/Academy
VICTIM: Deputy Sheriff, 28 years old
SUMMARY:
On Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at about 10:00 a.m., deputies from the Special Enforcement Division were conducting regularly scheduled training at Sheriff’s Training Center. During tactical movement exercises, a deputy’s weapon discharged during the re-holster of his handgun. The deputy suffered a gunshot wound to his lower extremities and was immediately treated at the scene by two tactical medics who took part in the training exercise.
The deputy was airlifted to a local trauma center where he is currently listed in stable condition. An investigation into the cause of the discharge will be conducted.
