INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Amargosa Road north of Bear Valley Road, Victorville

VICTIM: Chet Govan, 50 years old, resident of Victorville


SUMMARY:
On April 29, 2017 at 1:24 p.m., a Black Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle, driven by Chet Govan, was travelling northbound on Amargosa Road, north of Bear Valley Road near the Red Lobster restaurant. Govan was traveling in the northbound #1 lane going into the left hand curve when he lost control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle went down and Govan was thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle slid out of control striking the guard rail posts on the west side of the roadway and the force of the collision sheared the front end of the motorcycle away from the main frame of the motorcycle. Govan slid on the roadway also striking the guard rail posts suffering major injuries.

Deputies from the Victorville Sheriff’s Station responded as well as personnel from San Bernardino County Fire Department and American Medical Response. Upon arrival of emergency services, it was determined that Govan was unconscious and suffering major life threating injuries. Govan was transported to Desert Valley Hospital by American Medical Response where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Deputies from the Region II Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Amargosa Road was closed between Bear Valley Road and Mall Boulevard while deputies investigated the scene. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the Region II Major Accident Investigation Team.
