On April 15, 2017, around 1pm, Fanoris Jackson was shot outside of Building 2 at Highland Woods Apartments located at 5751 Riverdale Road. A Clayton County Police Officer patrolling the area heard gun shots and responded to the scene.

A citizen pointed out the suspect who had just shot Jackson to the arriving officer. The shooter ran and was able to escape on foot.

Jackson was shot in the chest and leg and was pronounced dead once he arrived at the hospital.

Clayton County Police Homicide Detectives under the command of Major Roberts and Captain Norwood arrived on the scene and worked tirelessly to identify the suspect. Through the Clayton County Police Department’s investigation, it was determined that Terrell Thurmond Jr. was the suspect and a warrant for murder was issued for his arrest.

Earlier this morning, Sheriff Victor Hill's elite Fugitive Squad went to work to find Thurmond and they did just that. Thurmond sought an avenue of escape, but was quickly surrounded and apprehended at a location in Riverdale. Thurmond now faces the wall at Georgia's toughest para-military jail.
