Two Fort Wayne Area Troopers Recently Promoted

(Fort Wayne, IN)-The Superintendent of the Indiana State Police, Douglas G. Carter, has announced the promotions of two Troopers from the Fort Wayne area that took effect yesterday, April 23, 2017.
 
• First Sergeant R. Corey Culler, Special Operations Command-S.W.A.T. Assistant Commander, has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and will serve as the Fort Wayne District Commander. He will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Fort Wayne Post, including the supervision of the subordinate command staff.

Culler is a 1988 graduate of East Noble High School in Kendallville (Noble County). In 1994, he received his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University, Purdue University at Fort Wayne (IPFW). Culler was accepted to the 52nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and was appointed as a Trooper assigned to the Toll Road Post on June 4, 1995. Within the following year, Culler had transferred to the Indiana State Police Post in Fort Wayne and was assigned patrol duties in both LaGrange and Noble Counties.

Since September of 1996, Culler has been a member of the S.W.A.T. Team and in August of 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant where he served as the North S.W.A.T. Team leader.  Culler was awarded the Department’s Combat Action Award in November of 2008.

In August of 2013, he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant where he oversaw the day-to-day duties, training activities and supervised the leaders of the North, Central and South S.W.A.T. Teams as the Assistant Commander in the Special Operations Command.  During his career, Culler has served as a Department firearms instructor and the Fort Wayne District’s Domestic Cannabis Eradication Coordinator. Culler and his family are residents of rural Noble County.
 
• Corporal Matthew J. Lazoff has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant and he will serve as a District Squad Leader.

Lazoff is a 2001 graduate of Northrop High School in Fort Wayne and in 2006 he earned his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University, Purdue University at Fort Wayne (IPFW). Lazoff was accepted to the 67th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy and on July 8, 2007 he was appointed as a Trooper and assigned to the Toll Road Post. He was responsible for patrol duties in Lake, LaPorte, Porter and St. Joseph Counties.  In 2011, Lazoff was awarded the Department’s Meritorious Service Award for his efforts as the Trooper with the most OWI arrests for the Toll Road Post.

In July of 2012, Lazoff transferred to the Fort Wayne Post where he has patrolled DeKalb, LaGrange and Steuben Counties. In July of 2014, Lazoff was promoted to the rank of Corporal where he served as a District Duty Officer for the Fort Wayne Post as a first line supervisor.  During his career, Lazoff has served as a Field Training Officer, a member of the SCUBA Team and a member of the Clandestine Laboratory Team. He also maintains a Level III Certification through the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Lazoff and his family are residents of rural Steuben County.
