Indiana State Police Twice Recognizes Putnamville Trooper

An awards program was held this afternoon at the Indiana Government Center for Indiana State Police employees. During the ceremony, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter and his primary staff, twice recognized a Putnamville Trooper for his work and dedication.

Trooper Rondell K. Shelton, a two-year veteran of the ISP, was awarded both the 2016 Trooper of the District Award for the Putnamville District and the 2016 Putnamville District DUI (Driving Under the Influence) Award. Trooper Shelton was overwhelmingly selected for these awards by his peers and the District 53 Command Team.

During 2016 Trooper Shelton concentrated his traffic and criminal enforcement efforts in traffic, DUI and drug enforcement and associated crimes, making 36 DUI arrests and 209 criminal arrests, including 45 felonies, most of which were drug and/or alcohol related. The statistics placed him first in the district in criminal arrests. Shelton also led the district in DUI arrests and was second in total traffic enforcement contacts. He made 419 traffic arrests, 1075 warnings and 84 police services. Shelton is also one of the first to respond, when other agencies ask for assistance.

Lieutenant Dan Jones, Commander of the Putnamville District, stated: “Trooper Shelton is a role model and an example of how we hope our troopers will perform and conduct themselves. He is very aggressive in his enforcement efforts, thinks outside the box, and his work ethic is beyond reproach. Trooper Shelton is and an extremely valuable member of the department and our district. We are proud of his well-deserved achievements”.

Shelton is a graduate of the ISP 74th Recruit School having graduated on December 23, 2014. Since then, he has been assigned to the Putnamville District where he primarily patrols Vigo County.
