Shortly after 5:00PM today, the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for Hamilton and Madison County based on radar observations.  EMA quickly activated our Warning Division and StormNet spotters who deployed in western and central Madison County watching the storm system for any signs of rotation.  Around 5:15 PM, trained spotters did observe rotation in the clouds near the intersection of Scatterfield Road and Mounds Road.  Trained spotters noted the rotation did not extend down toward the surface, however this type of weather event could quickly have turned dangerous had a tornado formed.

Throughout the day today, EMA personnel were closely monitoring the weather conditions and were on standby if needed.   Weather conditions can change rapidly, and todays storm reinforces the need for the public to be alert and observant when their is a threat of severe weather.
