April 24-28, the Burr Ridge PD will be conducting traffic enforcement targeting violations of distracted driving.

Burr Ridge Police Chief John Madden announced his department will partner with the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP) and be participating in Distracted Driving Awareness Week, which runs April 24-28.

The Burr Ridge Police Department, along with numerous Illinois law enforcement agencies, will be conducting enforcement in problem and high traffic crash locations and targeting violations of distracted driving.

These violations include texting, and using a hand held mobile phone, cell phone or electronic communication device while operating a motor vehicle

Unfortunately, traffic fatalities are again on the rise in Illinois and safety experts say that this is in large part due to distracted driving.

In 2015, distracted driving was a factor in motor vehicle crashes that killed 3,459 people, nationally.

Educating and informing the public about distracted driving, ensuring younger drivers understand the consequences of driving distracted and obeying traffic laws will reduce the number of fatalities and injuries.

The ILACP Traffic Safety Committee is asking for support of the law enforcement partners in addressing this area of traffic safety.

Please get on board and help make a difference in distracted driving awareness in 2017.
