INCIDENT: Homicide Investigation

LOCATION: 15517 Village Drive, Victorville

VICTIM: Kalon Dawson, 20 years old, Victorville resident

SUSPECTS: #1- Eric Walton, 18 years old, black male, Adelanto resident
#2- 17-year-old male, Victorville resident

SUMMARY:
On Saturday, April 15, 2017 at approximately 7:20 p.m., deputies from the Victorville Sheriff’s Station responded to 15517 Village Drive, Victorville, following the report of a gunshot victim at the location. Upon arrival, deputies located Kalon Dawson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported Dawson to Victor Valley Global Medical Center (VVGMC). At 7:56 p.m., Dawson was pronounced deceased at VVGMC.

Investigators from the Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, responded to the location and assumed the investigation. During the investigation, witnesses to the shooting were interviewed and video surveillance recordings from several businesses were obtained. Suspect descriptions were obtained from witnesses which matched the suspects seen in the video recordings. At approximately 3:00 a.m., investigators contacted a family at one of the nearby motel rooms. During the contact, deputies located two subjects matching the description of the suspects. The subjects were identified as Eric Walton and a 17-year-old male. Walton and the juvenile were detained without incident. During a search of Walton and the juvenile a handgun was located.

A search warrant was authored for the motel room for evidence related to the homicide. Walton and the juvenile were interviewed. After the search warrant and interviews, Walton and the juvenile were arrested. Walton was booked at HDDC for PC 187(a)-Murder and the juvenile was booked at the Juvenile Detention Center in Apple Valley for PC 187(a)-Murder.
