INCIDENT: PC 530.5, Identity Theft and PC 459, Burglary

LOCATION: 25980 Barton Road, City of Loma Linda

SUSPECT: Matthew Eugene Rinke, resident of San Bernardino


SUMMARY:
On Friday, April 14, 2017 Central Station Deputies, assigned to the contract City of Loma Linda, responded to the Universal Self Storage after receiving reports of storage units getting broken into. A follow up at the business location was conducted and deputies observed Rinke taking items from a storage unit that did not belong to him. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Rinke's vehicle as he drove out of the facility. During a search of Rinke's vehicle, deputies recovered evidence linking him to several storage unit burglaries.

Rinke was found to have opened a lease agreement using an unsuspecting victim's identity. The storage units believed to be affected are from the Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands and Loma Linda areas. A search of Rinke's unit was conducted and additional stolen property was recovered. Deputies also found a pick-lock set in Rinke's vehicle. Rinke's vehicle was a 2001 Mercedes-Benz CLK500 with silver rims and license plate 6YQH947. Rinke was proficient in using the tools and was able to bypass the locks without showing signs of tampering.

Rinke was booked in to Central Detention Center for Identity Theft and Burglary.
