On April 14, 2017, at 5:30 a.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a report of a two vehicle accident on State Road 64 near the intersection of County Road 800 West in rural Gibson County. Upon arriving Deputy U.B. Smith and Sergeant John Fischer conducted an investigation into the accident while Firemen with the Owensville-Montgomery Township Fire Department and Princeton Fire Territory assisted medics with the Gibson County Ambulance Service in treating the injured at the scene.

The Gibson County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Indiana State Police and the Gibson County Coroner’s Office were able to determine that a Red 1992 Buick Passenger car driven by 37 year old Robert L. Christie Jr. of Bellmont, Illinois crossed the center line of the roadway while traveling Westbound and struck a Tan 2000 Toyota 4Runner that was Eastbound. Mr. Christie was taken by ambulance to Gibson General Hospital and then later transferred by helicopter to an Evansville area hospital. The driver of the Toyota 4Runner, 34 year old Amanda J. Leonard of Olney, Illinois died at the scene.
