Traffic deputies investigate a major injury traffic collision on Bear Valley Rd.

DATE/TIME: April 12, 2017 8:14 p.m.

INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision/Driving Under the Influence

LOCATION: Bear Valley Rd east of Savage Lane, Town of Apple Valley

DRIVER#1: Delbert Carlile, 60 years old, resident of Apple Valley

DRIVER#2: Shree Baez, 22 years old, resident of Apple Valley

PASSENGER: Coadee Ridens, 23 years old, resident of Apple Valley

SUMMARY:
On April 12, 2017, at 8:14 p.m., a Mazda Miata driven by Delbert Carlile, a 60-year-old resident of Apple Valley, was traveling eastbound on Bear Valley Road near Savage lane. Carlile was witnessed driving recklessly and weaving through traffic prior to the collision. Carlile traveled into westbound traffic where he struck a black 2012 Jeep Compass being driven by the Shree Baez. Baez was traveling in the westbound, number one lane of Bear Valley Road when the Mazda collided with her, causing the Jeep to veer to the right and overturn onto its right side. Carlile continued eastbound in his Miata and came to rest in the center turn lane of Bear Valley Road. Both vehicles sustained major damage from the collision.

Deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene as well as personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response. Carlile was trapped in his vehicle and required extrication. Carlile was alert and talking with emergency personnel at the scene. After being extricated from the vehicle, Carlile was flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he is listed in critical but stable condition. Baez and her male passenger, Coedee Ridens were able to self-extricate from the Jeep. They were treated by Paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.

The initial investigation indicates Carlile was driving his vehicle in an unsafe manner. A contributing factor of under the influence of alcohol/drugs is being investigated.
